Greek Green Beans

Here you will find the recipe for the lovely meal of Greek Green Beans. This meal is easy to make and has a very nice flavour. I made it for the first time with a good friend of mine.

Here are the ingredients:

  • 600 gram potatoes or small potatoes (also called bantam potato)
  • 500 gram green beens
  • 500 milliliter tomato sauce or sieved tomatoes
  • 100 gram feta cheese
  • 1 red onion
  • 2 gloves of garlic
  • 0,5 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon paprika powder
  • 0,5 teaspoon of sugar
  • A little bit of oregano
  • A little bit of pepper and salt
  • A handful of walnuts
  • Oil to bake in
  • Parsley (use a little bit or whatever you prefer)

How to make green beens tomato sauce

Step 1

Remove the ends of the green beens. Cook the green beens in a pan with water for about 12 minutes (or whatever you think is long enough to cook them). Also chop the potatoes in pieces in the same size and cook them too for about 12 minutes in a pan of water. If you decide to use small potatoes/bantam potato you can cook these too for about 12 minutes in a pan of water. Also with the potatoes: cook them until they are soft inside (you can check this by piercing one of them with a fork (softly, just enough to know if the potato is cooked enough). Later they will also be cooked inside the pan together with the green beens. Just cook them until they are at least eatable. After they are good put the water out.

Step 2

Cut the onion and the garlic into small pieces. Let the onion and the garlic pieces cook a little for a few minutes in a big or normal sized pan. Then add the potatoes. Add the spices cinnamon, paprika powder and oregano. Bake for a few minutes also.

After this add the green beans (you can chop every green been into 2 small pieces if you want) and the tomato sauce. Add the sugar and add pepper and salt. Do not forget to mix it all ;).

Step 3

Let it all cook for 15 minutes on a low heat/normal heat.

Step 4

After it is cooked and you put your food on the plate put some walnuts, feta and parsley on top of the dish and serve it.

 

Sidenotes: 1) this recipe is vegetarian but you can add chicken (in step 2 after adding the chopped onion an garlic). Make sure you cook the chicken good. Or add some vegan chicken.

2) You could also cook the potatoes and green beens in the pan right away instead of cooking them in the water, but cooking will take longer the dish will take longer: around 45 minutes or more.
